This product is a liquid alkyl ketene dimer (AKD), produced through the same synthesis process as solid alkyl ketene dimer(AKD).

The difference lies in the raw materials uesd:liquid AKD is derived

from monomer acids, while solid AKD is made from stearic acid.

Structural Differences:

Unlike the straight-chain structure of solid AKD, this liquid AKD has a branched chain structure.  All others are different.

Liquid AKD Description:

This type of liquid AKD is a composite made from various straight-chain fatty acids and branched-chain acids. After hydrogenation, it forms stearic acid, which is then acylated to produce the final product. At room temperature, it appears as a reddish-brown oily liquid with an iodine value ≥65 and an acid value of around 8.

As a new type of surface sizing agent, liquid AKD has been proven through long-term practice to deliver remarkable results, especially in high-quality paper pulps like cultural paper. It can reduce the use of solid AKD by approximately 20%. The effect is slightly less pronounced in corrugated and containerboard papers, where it can reduce solid AKD usage by about 10%.
