Structural Differences:
Unlike the straight-chain structure of solid AKD, this liquid AKD has a branched chain structure. All others are different.
Liquid AKD Description:
This type of liquid AKD is a composite made from various straight-chain fatty acids and branched-chain acids. After hydrogenation, it forms stearic acid, which is then acylated to produce the final product. At room temperature, it appears as a reddish-brown oily liquid with an iodine value ≥65 and an acid value of around 8.
As a new type of surface sizing agent, liquid AKD has been proven through long-term practice to deliver remarkable results, especially in high-quality paper pulps like cultural paper. It can reduce the use of solid AKD by approximately 20%. The effect is slightly less pronounced in corrugated and containerboard papers, where it can reduce solid AKD usage by about 10%.
Advantages:
1. Saving 10% AKD WAX using quantity during AKD Emulsion production, good advantage for production cost.
During solid AKD WAX melting, you can mix using this liquid AKD WAX. For example, if you are using 100Kg AKD WAX to produce 15% solid content AKD surface sizing, then you just use 25KG LKD + 65KG AKD WAX, that is 90% of prior AKD wax quantity, which can realize the same sizing effect.
2. Final AKD Emulsion stability is more stable, usually 6 months shelf life.
3. Final AKD Emulsion curing time can be half less compare with prior AKD Emulsion.
4. Its production process is totally same as before, just mix LKD and solid AKD WAX, then raise the temperature and let the mixed AKD totally melted, the following steps are also same as before.
