Product Name: Liquid Alkyl Ketene Dymer/GT-LKD 02 Purity: ≥86% Iodine Value: ≥90
Liquid alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) is produced through the same synthesis process as solid alkyl ketene dimer (AKD). The difference lies in the raw materials used: liquid AKD is derived from monomer acids, while solid AKD is made from stearic acid.
Features
Performs better at higher paper machine speeds. Prevents sticking on thin paper grades. Fast curing time. Emulsification process is identical to that of solid AKD.
Usage Liquid AKD cannot be used independently; it must be blended with solid AKD. Typically, a mixture of 70% solid AKD and 30% liquid AKD is heated together, emulsified, and homogenized using the same process as that for solid AKD. ·Cultural Paper: The current usage of AKD can be reduced to 80% of the original solid AKD content. For example, to achieve the same sizing effect as 100 kg of solid AKD solids, you now need 80 kg (56 kg solid AKD + 24 kg liquid AKD). The amount of emulsifier is also proportionally reduced. ·Containerboard and Corrugated Paper: For these types, 90% of the original AKD content is required to achieve the same sizing effect, using 63 kg of solid AKD and 27 kg of liquid AKD. The reduction in solid content can be compensated by adding aluminum sulfate (iron-free). This blended surface sizing agent demonstrates significantly improved stability compared to sizing agents made purely from solid AKD, both during storage and in application on the paper machine.
